Position Summary:
The Payroll Manager is a strategic and hands-on leader responsible for the management and continuous improvement of Kodiak’s payroll processing across more than 40 subsidiary companies. This role leads the payroll function and ensures the accuracy, compliance, and efficiency of payroll processing. This position requires strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and a collaborative mindset to support a diverse workforce—including plant, warehouse, and field personnel within our Operating Companies in a rapidly evolving organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Payroll Oversight
- Lead and manage multi-state, multi-entity payroll processing through ADP Workforce Now
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and reporting requirements
- Establish, document, and continuously improve payroll processes, controls, and reporting
- Partner with Accounting to ensure accurate payroll accounting, GL mapping, and reconciliations
- Respond to payroll-related audits, inquiries, and escalations with urgency and accuracy
- Lead system integration projects, including onboarding new entities in ADP Workforce now post-acquisition and assisting them in developing SOP’s and best practices for payroll processing.
- Act as a payroll SME across Kodiak’s Operating Companies, advising on complex payroll and tax matters
- Develop and disseminate payroll best practices, policies, and training materials to ensure consistency and compliance
- Lead workshops, webinars, and one-on-one coaching sessions for payroll processors and HR teams
- Monitor legislative changes and proactively update processes to ensure ongoing compliance
- Partner with external tax advisors and internal stakeholders to resolve tax-related issues
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field required; Master’s degree or certifications (CPP) preferred
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in payroll, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial capacity
- Deep expertise in ADP Workforce Now is preferred
- Experience managing multi-entity, multi-state payrolls, including acquisitions and system integrations
- Strong analytical and reporting skills with advanced Excel proficiency
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects and improve systems and processes
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a customer-focused mindset
- Highly organized, proactive, and able to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment
Location: This position is primarily on-site at our headquarters located at: 9780 Pyramid Court, Englewood, CO 80112
- Regular in-person attendance is required Monday through Thursday
- Friday is an optional remote workday

- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally
- Must be able to move between departments within the company facility
